Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.
Author Guidelines
Prospective authors for the Journal of Applied Linguistics should register as authors (see the 'On Line Submission' details above).
First, click here to download the guidelines which you will find in PDF format. The guidelines pertain to article and book review submissions. All articles are peer-reviewed. We will acknowledge our submission upon receipt and let you know the anticipated timeframe for a decision. If your article is accepted, we will send you further instructions for submitting the final manuscript of your article.
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- This is an original publication and has not been published elsewhere and has not been submitted elsewhere.
- The submission file is in Microsoft Word compatible format, is in English and does not exceed 10,000 words (for a regular article).
- All URL addresses in the text (e.g., http://pkp.sfu.ca) are activated and ready to click.
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; uses italics where needed and underlining only where underlining is required in the final publication.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
- The text, if submitted to a peer-reviewed section (e.g., Articles), has had the authors' names removed. If an author is cited, "Author" and year are used in the bibliography and footnotes, instead of author's name, paper title, etc. The author's name has also been removed from the document's Properties, which in Microsoft Word is found in the File menu.
- Transcripts are set out using a Courier font and do not exceed 65 characters per line including any line numbers and speaker names.
- Tables are included in the manuscript at the point they are intended to appear, preceded by a table caption. Tables do not contain tints.
- All artwork (photos, line drawings, maps, musical examples, text using unusal fonts, etc) are or will be supplied as Camera-Ready according to the Artwork Preparation Guidelines. Captions are left in at the point the figure is intended to appear.
- Phonetics are displayed using SIL IPA93 Doulos or Charis fonts. No other fonts are acceptable unless they are unicode compliant.
- All permissions have been cleared for any copyrighted material. If in doubt, please see Permissions Guidelines for Equinox Authors.
Copyright Notice
The editors will not consider manuscripts which are under consideration by other publishers. It is assumed that once you have submitted an article to this journal, it will not be sent to other publishers until a decision about inclusion has been made. Only by special arrangement will the editors consider previously published material. Full details of our conditions related to copyright can be found by clicking here.
