Carlos A. Manrique

Carlos A. Manrique is Associate Professor at the Philosophy Department in the Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia). He received his PhD in Philosophy of Religion from the University of Chicago in 2009. At the intersection between political philosophy, critical social theory, and political theology, his research explores the creative work deployed in everyday practices of social movements and community-based organizing, and the role of religion in how they mobilize alternative understandings of peacebuilding and democracy beyond the leveling frame of consensual liberal democracy. Among his recent publications one finds "Insubordinate black catholicism, ethnization and social ontologies in Colombia's pacific region" (American Religion Journal, 2024) and "Spiritual memory, spatial affects and churchstateness in popular uprising in afro-Colombia's pacific littoral" (Political Theology, 2024).
