Abel R. Gomez

Abel R. Gomez is Assistant Professor of Native American and Indigenous spiritual traditions in the Religion Department at Texas Christian University, located in the homeland of the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes. His research focuses on Indigenous resurgence and sacred sites protection movements among Ohlone tribal communities of the San Francisco and Monterey regions of California.

It is not always possible (or advisable) to separate the “political” from the “religious” or “cultural” in Indigenous contexts. Indeed, all of these are concepts developed by outsiders to describe Indigenous life. Instead, Indigeneity invites scholars of political theology and related fields to consider the relationships between these threads of cultural life.
