Jace Weaver

Jace Weaver is the Franklin Professor of Religion and Native American Studies at the University of Georgia.  He is one of the country’s leading scholars of Native American studies and the author or editor of fifteen books.  His most recent book is American Indian History: Core Documents (forthcoming, Ashbrook Press, 2022).  He holds a J.D. and a Ph.D.

Native survivance, in [Gerald] Vizenor’s parlance, is a combination of the words “survival” and “resistance,” and it “creates a sense of presence.” According to him, “The suffix -ance designates a condition, a nature, or a quality that is more than a mere description of survival.”
