Jason Keith Fernandes

Jason Keith Fernandes is a researcher at the Centre for Research in Anthropology (CRIA) – ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon. He received a PhD in Anthropology from ISCTE in 2013 for his research into the citizenship experiences of Catholics in Goa, which formed the basis for his 2020 book Citizenship in a Caste Polity – Religion, Language and Belonging in Goa. Jason holds the bachelor’s degree in law from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, and a Master’s degree in the Sociology of Law from the International Institute for the Sociology of Law responsible for his wide research interests which include citizenship theory, secularism (especially in India), comparative postcolonial theory, which a specific focus on Goa, the former Portuguese territory now in India. More recently, he has found an interest in Catholic theology which he explores for ways to engage with the current crisis in liberal democracy.
