Miguel Vatter

Miguel Vatter is Professor of Politics at Deakin University and Leverhulme Visiting Professor 2024-2025 at Lancaster University.  He works in political theory and intellectual history. His most recent book is Living Law. Jewish Political Theology from Hermann Cohen to Hannah Arendt (Oxford UP 2021); his most recent edited volume, with Vanessa Lemm, is The Viral Politics of Covid-19: Nature, Home and Planetary Health (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022).

On the Ubiquity of Entropy

The novel questions whether “real life” is more real than “half life” and thereby becomes an allegory for how the “other world” of religious imagination colonizes “this world”. Dick constructs the relation between the “real world” and the “other world,” between immanence and transcendence, according to the psycho-dynamics of revealed, monotheistic religion.
