Milad Odabaei is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Princeton University. He studies questions of tradition and translation in post-revolutionary Iran. Among other writings, his essays on the translation of European concepts and theories (including Schmitt’s “political theology”) in Iranian debates on Islam and the state appeared in CSSAAME 39:2 and HAU 10:20.
The Political Theology Network seeks proposals for its next series of essays on Critical Theory for Political Theology 2.0 from the fields of feminist theory, queer theory, decolonial studies, Black studies, or Indigenous studies.
Rather than establishing structural analogies or historical filiations between “religion” and “politics” (terms he opens to question), Talal Asad urges attention to shifts in the grammar of concepts across different situations.
