The Political Theology Network began in 2014 as an effort to provide an intellectual home for those who existed uneasily within other disciplinary associations. From 2017 to 2022, PTN was supported by start-up grants from the Henry Luce Foundation. In that time, we have held the U.S.-based national conferences (2018, 2019, and 2022) and more focused events on themes ranging from intersectionality, provincialization of the field, death, and religious freedom. Our members organize and participate in book clubs, virtual workshops, dissertation writing groups, and blogs. In podcasts, on the website, and at events, PTN is exploring what political theology has been and what it might be. Collectively, we are expanding the themes that are explored and the voices that drive that creative endeavor.
In 2021, we became a member organization and in 2022 we began the transition to a self-sustaining network. We have continued to host national conferences and provide a range of virtual and in-person spaces for conversations that are not happening elsewhere. The PTN is now an organization with over 3000 members, with online scholarship activities taking place daily. If you aren’t a member, please consider joining (fee charged annually, pay as you wish). With the support of annual membership dues, we can continue to create spaces for exploring new and challenging ideas.
