Saint John Paul II?

Apparently. the rush is on to make Pope John Paul II a saint.  As a Protestant, it is really none of my business, of course.  But in my judgment, JP 2 is nowhere near saintly material.

1.  His silencing of theological voices which did not echo his own, including such gifted theologians as Hans Kung and Charles Curran.

2.  His rollback of the reforms of Vatican II.

3.  His beatification of Pius XII, who signed the concordat with Hitler and who did little to challenge the genocidal dictator in exchange for Hitler’s protection of Catholic property and clergy.

4.  His participation in the cover-up of the widespread molestation of children on the part of Catholic priests around the world.

Mother Teresa I can certainly understand.  But JP 2?  No way.
