Art Wright

Rev. Dr. Arthur M. Wright, Jr. is the senior pastor of Williamsburg Baptist Church in Williamsburg, VA. He previously served as Associate Professor of Spirituality and New Testament at the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. A graduate of Union Presbyterian Seminary (Ph.D. in Biblical Studies), Art has written a number of articles on the relationship between the New Testament and the Roman imperial world. His book, The Governor and the King: Irony, Hidden Transcripts, and Negotiating Empire in the Fourth Gospel, was published by Wipf and Stock in 2019. Art serves on the steering committee for the “Contextual Biblical Interpretation” program unit of the Society of Biblical Literature, and he previously served as the co-chair of the “Jesus Traditions, Gospels, and Negotiating the Roman Imperial World” program unit. Art is the book review editor for Review & Expositor.
