The Institute for Advance Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh is seeking applications for four new fellowship programs in 2020-21.
In partnership with the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Centre for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World, the Institute offers the IASH-Alwaleed Postdoctoral Fellowship for early-career researchers working in the field of contemporary Islam and Muslim culture. This Fellowship covers a visit of between three and ten months, with a bursary of up to £13,000 – applications must be received by 30 April 2020. Senior scholars in the same field can apply for the IASH-Alwaleed Research Fellowship, covering visits of two to four months, with a stipend of up to £3,500 plus £500 for travel; the deadline for this Fellowship is 28 February 2020.
With the Centre for Theology and Public Issues in the School of Divinity, the Institute offers the CTPI Duncan Forrester Fellowship for early-career researchers working in public theology, especially in relation to areas such as peacebuilding and the arts, politics and migration, environmental ethics, and law and justice. This Fellowship covers a visit of between three and ten months, with a bursary of up to £13,000. Applications must be received by 30 April 2020.
The Institute also offers the Combe Trust Fellowship, aimed at senior researchers working in a wide range of topics inspired by the interests of George Combe (1788 – 1858), including public theology, religion and religious education, physiology and health, Scots law, peacebuilding, prison reform, psychiatry, psychology and neuroscience, moral philosophy, natural sciences or the arts (e.g. theatre, film, dance, visual arts). As well as a two- to three-month visit to IASH and a stipend of up to £3,900, the Combe Trust Fellow will also be invited to deliver the annual Combe Trust Lecture, part of a series stretching back to 1882. The deadline for this Fellowship is 28 February 2020.
